Good news, everyone. ❤ A really exciting project I’ve been preparing with some super cool/brilliant/awesome people for a while, whose work I love and respect a lot, and think we can really make something great together. We’ve always thought ‘wouldn’t it be great if indie LGBTQIA SFF writers like us had a place to work together, support one another, and create beautiful things?‘ Yes. Yes it would
The Kraken Collective Is:
A collection of talented, dedicated LGBTQIA SFF folks working together co-op style to write/create/promote inclusive works! Basically, we’re going to make the best speculative fiction we can and support one another – and eventually, more creators! – because our stories are important and deserve to be told, shared, and celebrated.
This is something I’ve been wanting for a long time. Safe/inclusive/positive LGBT publishing, really by/for us. Last year was super rough, including when it comes to writing – so I figure indies working together and pooling our talents (art, editing and marketing as well as writing) is our best shot right now. We have a lot of good to give, and it’ll be easier if we do it together. (Just knowing you’re not alone does wonders.)
Also, that “retaining complete creative control” part is especially cool and important to me. Co-op model means we hang onto our rights, while getting the benefits of a traditional publisher. (We may add a trad-pub imprint later, but honestly, this is amazing to start out with, for me at least.)
From the website:
The Kraken Collective is an alliance of indie authors who have pooled resources to publish high-quality fiction while retaining complete creative control over our stories. We aim to provide a wide variety of science fiction and fantasy stories, all starring LGBTQIAP+ characters. From alien hunting lesbians to complex political fantasy, The Kraken Collective publishes queer SFF that will blow your mind and leave you craving more.
Although it begins as a simple cooperative between authors, we aim to grow into an unique publishing model capable of supporting queer indie voices everywhere in SFF. We are committed to building a publishing space that is inclusive, positive, and brings fascinating stories to readers.
Why a Kraken?
Cephalopods are fascinating and deeply intelligent creatures: masters of camouflage, brilliant escape artists, and underwater innovators–from the millimeters-long cuties to the kraken-like giants, they’ve impressed us with their constant ingenuity and creativity. In short, they are awesome.
Just like us.
We hope to create a kraken-sized cloud of ink through our stories and that, like an octopus hiding in its ink, you too can find refuge and solace in our worlds.

ALSO, I’ll be Instagramming, putting my Thing for edits and aesthetics to good use. Here’s our cute logo, vintage-poster/starry style. All creative and whatnot. I’m gonna have fun. (Expect book aesthetics/edits/art as we continue!)
