Developmental/Story Feedback, and Line/Flow Edits

My favorite things to read are LGBT-focused sci-fi, fantasy, and horror, but I will read anything, any genre!

NSFW/erotica is fine, just please, tell me ahead of time! (Thank you very much for respecting that.)

Developmental Editing:

AKA Story Doctoring! Basically a very close and intense beta read, specifically geared toward making a story more connected, detailed, and deep. I’ll read through your book, story, poem, or anything else, and tell you my reader-thoughts, reactions, feelings, and questions. I’ll look at major themes, character dynamics and interaction, worldbuilding, and continuity. I can also give suggestions on how to increase the story stakes and make a narrative more intense, tighter, and more emotionally hard-hitting. (Seriously, I love this.)

Does not include proofreading or targeted sensitivity reads, though I will let you know if I see any glaring errors or problematic content.

Line/Flow Edits:

I’ll take a detailed look through your writing and make it clean and shiny, by checking for grammar, punctuation, sentence structure and flow. By ‘flow’ I mean… does it sound nice? Does one idea go logically and easily into the next? Are there POV breaks/passive-voice slips/general weirdness? 

Does not include sensitivity reading or developmental editing; I’m only looking at craft/flow/cleanup here.

Experience:

I’m the author of the successful indie SFF series Chameleon Moon, as well as vampire series Stake Sauce, and interactive portal fantasy Dawnfall from Choice of Games. I’m one of the founding members of The Kraken Collective, an indie publishing group for positive, high-quality LGBTQIA speculative fiction. 

Highly connected, highly emotionally-engaging, inclusive/progressive and immersive stories are my brand, jam, design, and life. I also read constantly and have an extremely keen eye/sense for good character moments, tension, stakes, pain/catharsis, and emotional payoff. Aside from the Kraken Collective, I’ve worked with several published authors and their short story, novelette, novella, and novel-length works. DEVELOPMENTAL EDIT:

Detailed story, character, and mechanics thoughts tracked and highlighted comments in your word doc, as well as a letter with my overall impressions, and suggestions.

• 1,000 Words and Under: $35 flat
• Over 1,000 Words: $20 + .01 cents per word

PROOFREADING/LINE EDITS:

Sentence structure, word flow, and spelling/grammar feedback with tracked changes/highlights.

• 1,000 Words and Under: $30 flat
• Over 1,000 Words: $20 + .009 cents per word

• $30 flat for flow/line edits, $35 flat for developmental/deep feedback.
  

35,000 Word Novella

• Flow/line Edits: $30 + $315 (35,000 x .009) = $345
• Developmental/Deep Feedback: $35 + $350 (35,000 x .01) = $385

70,000 Word Novel

• Flow/line Edits: $30 + $630 (70,000 x .009) = $660
• Developmental/Deep Feedback: $35 + $700 (70,000 x .01) = $735

 

Discounts:

All rates are negotiable for small-press, self-published, and ownvoice writers (“ownvoice” = a work in which you share the identities/marginalizations of your characters), up to a 20% discount.
